Have cars and greasy garages always been your home away from home? Does the smell of grease make you yearn for jumping in with your own tools to see how you can help out? Perhaps then this might be something you would like to do for a living. Becoming a mechanic just might let you not only fulfill your passion but also get paid for it while you are doing it. If this sounds like something you might like to put some time and effort into, then Ashworth University, Ashworth College and Lincoln Tech are there to offer you the opportunity to be able to become a highly skilled mechanic.
Once you have become certain that you would like to be trained to become a mechanic, you should be careful of what school you choose to attend. It is important that the school be a member of the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation. If they are a member of this foundation, then you can be assured that the training that they offer passes all the requirements that are set down by this foundation. After you have decided upon which school you would like to attend, you will discover that on top of having to take the technical subjects, you will also be asked to also take your basic classes such as some sort of English and math. This is to insure that you have a very well rounded education when you graduate.
Connecticut Mechanic & Vocational Job Outlook and Salary
Once you have gone through the training, the first thing you will probably be concerned with is how available jobs will be. It is predicted that there will be a 5% increase need for mechanics within the next 10 years or so. The need for specialized mechanics will continue to rise as cars become more and more complicated. So it is always a good thing if you pick something to specialize in. It also is important to make sure that you are also ASE certified and to keep it current.
Salary is probably the next thing on your mind once you have completed your training. You will be happy to know that salaries tend to be quite good in this line of work. Even the entry level mechanic can find themselves bringing in about $17.00 an hour, which was about the national average for 2009. As you become more skilled and/or specialized the opportunities to make even more money will be there. As you become more experienced you can probably be able to make anywhere from $20.00 to $30.00 an hour. If you have aspirations to own your business, you will find that the ability to make money and lots of it will depend upon how hard you want to work for it.
